Description

Editorial
The July 2025 issue of the Journal of Indian Health Psychology features seven articles addressing diverse aspects of health and illness, along with their applications across different fields. The first article, authored by S. Shamreen Rumana and Punithavathi S., examines self-objectification, integrated self-criticism, and self-reassurance, and their impact on psychological well-being among amateur and non-dancers. The study provides valuable insights into the intricate relationship between artistic self-perception and psychological health. In the next article, Anjali Verma and Ved Prakash Rawat present a comprehensive review of existing literature on factors that promote healthy aging, including spirituality, mindfulness, social support, psychological capital (PsyCap), and lifestyle. Their findings indicate that these factors positively influence the well-being of older adults, underscoring the importance of integrating them to foster healthy aging and enhance quality of life in later years. In the next article of this issue, Archana Sharma and Bhupinder Singh examines the theoretical foundations and therapeutic potential of art therapy in addressing Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) among children. Drawing on psychoanalytic, humanistic, cognitive-behavioral, and neurodevelopmental perspectives, the paper illustrates how art therapy supports emotional regulation, self-expression, and behavioral control, particularly for children who struggle with verbal communication. The review of global and Indian research, emphase the growing recognition and gradual intergration of art-based interventions within both clinical and educational settings. The following article by Vipin Sehrawat, Bindu Kumari, and Kuldeep Nara explores the mediating role of perceived social support (PSS) in motivating athletes from team and individual sports to return to play after injury. The results indicate that PSS strengthens the link between motivation and recovery, with team sports fostering greater relatedness. K. C. Barmola and Hatsmiq investigate the link between childhood trauma and internet addiction in young adults. Results showed that emotional abuse and neglect are strongly associated with higher addiction levels. The study concludes that adverse childhood experiences heighten vulnerability to problematic internet use, underscoring the lasting impact of early emotional health. The next article by Khushi, Ankur Suhag and Deepti Hooda, examines the role of executive functions as predictors of compassion in students. Findings reveal executive functions significantly explain variances in Compassion (kindness, humanity, and mindfulness), emphasizing the need for designing interventions that enhance executive functioning to foster compassionate behavior. Monika K. Shikari investigates the impact of excessive internet use on the development of anorexia nervosa tendencies in adolescents. The results reveal that high levels of internet addiction negatively affect eating habits, contributing to anorexia tendencies. Significant gender differences were also observed, with girls exhibiting higher levels of anorexia tendencies than boys.
The journal serves as a platform for empirical research, comprehensive reviews, and intervention-oriented articles in the field of health psychology, with applications across diverse contexts. The editors extend sincere gratitude to all contributing authors for their valuable research, as well as to the referees and editorial board members for their insightful feedback and guidance. The journal aspires to raise awareness about health-related issues and promote strategies that contribute to the development of healthier, thriving individuals and communities.
