Refugee is a displaced person who has been forced to cross national boundaries and who cannot return home safely. A refugee is someone who has been forced to flee his or her country because of persecution, war, or violence. War and ethnic, tribal and religious violence are leading causes of refugees fleeing their countries. More than half of all refugees worldwide come from just three countries: Syria, Afghanistan and South Sudan. People forced to flee their homes but never cross an international border. These individuals are known as Internally Displaced Persons.  It is hoped that the present edition of this book will be beneficial to all concerned of the society, in general and students, lawyers, advocates, academicians, human rights institutions, researchers and NGOs working in social sciences field, in particular.

About the Authors

Dr. Sukanta Sarkar (MA, PhD) is a renowned scholar and academician in social science studies. He has more than 12 years teaching experience in various universities in India. He is currently working as Associate Professor in Department of Economics, Gambella University, Gambella, Ethiopia, Africa. He did bachelor and master degree in Economics from Tripura University, India. He was awarded doctorate degree for his research work on socio-economic changes of rubber tappers in Tripura. He qualified UGC-NET Exam in December/2006. He presented more than thirty research papers in various seminars, conferences and symposiums. He has been published more than hundred research papers in foreign and national journals. He was previously worked as visiting lecturer in National Institute of Technology, Agartala and Tripura University. He has research interest in various topics like agricultural crisis, rural development, women empowerment, sustainable development and social problems.

Saidur Rahman (b.1964) completed his bachelor degree in bio-sciences from the University of Calcutta (1984) and received his M.A. (1987) and Ph.D. degrees in Sociology from Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh. He has also done a Pre-doctoral course in American Civilization from the American Studies Research Centre, Hyderabad. He taught as a lecturer at Aligarh Muslim University from the year 1992-1998. He also taught as an Assistant Professor-III at the University of Asmara (Eritrea) from the year 2000-2005. Presently, he is Professor and has been teaching Sociology in the Department of Sociology & Social Work at the Eritrea Institute of Technology (Eritrea) since 2006.
