About the Book

The book, Understanding Sikhism, is a study of the origin and development of the faith, teachings of the successive ten gurus, beliefs of Sikhs, Khalsa, Sikh denominations,  Sikh Panth, holy scriptures, the system of prayer, rituals and rites associated with Sikh ceremonies and practices including death where Sikhs have a different view, Holy Places, as well as festivals. Photographs and illustrations included in the book should make it educative in nature.

The book should be of immense value to all those studying religion and theology in general, particularly Sikhism. The subject is taught in Indian, American and other universities. It is also taught in Sikh schools and institutions. This should also be useful for all the followers of Sikhism to understand their faith in its proper perspective.  It should be of particular interest to non-resident Sikhs and the Department of Sikh Studies in universities across the world.

About the Author

M.L. Ahuja, MA, DLL, DCS, is the author of around 45 books. He is the recipient of Janseva Sadbhavna Award (2006), Bharat Gaurav Award (2007), Rajiv Gandhi Rashtriya Ekta Samman (2009) and Lifetime Achievement Award as well as Gold Medal (2011) for excellence in writing. He had been the Area Representative of International Association of Orientalist Librarians for three years, and Executive Secretary of Afro-Asian Book Council. He is associated with Publishing Industry in India since 1959, has travelled extensively both within and outside India, and has presented papers at several national and international seminars.
