About the Book
Understanding the Universe, offers a readable, not overly technical but accurate account of cosmic evolution. Mainly intended for the non-specialist, the book attempts to unravel, some of the deepest secrets of nature from the quantum world of the infinitesimal to the cosmic realm of the infinite. In addition to its science content, the book also addresses some of the deep philosophical conundrums associated with the very existence of life in the universe. It is compulsory reading for all those who are propelled by sheer intellectual curiosity to know more about the wonderful world we live in.
About the Author
P.C. Chandrasekharan received his Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and Master’s degree in Science from the University of Madras, Chennai, India. He later on qualified for the M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering (Michigan State University-U.S.A.) and PhD degree in Modern Control Theory (University of Madras). His teaching and research career spanned over three decades- first at College of Engineering, Guindy and later on at Anna University. A recipient of the ‘Best Teacher Award’ of the State Government, he has held several responsible academic positions in the University with distinction – as a Professor, as Head of the Department and as Dean of Post Graduate Studies. After retirement, he was awarded the University Grants Commission (UGC) Emeritus fellowship for a two year period.
Professor Chandrasekharan has a number of technical publications to his credit in peer reviewed journals, both in India and abroad. He is the sole author of an advanced graduate level textbook entitled “Robust Control of Linear Dynamical Systems” published by the Academic Press, London in 1996.
In his role as a science writer he has been making occasional contributions on science related topics to one of the leading English dailies in India. It is this urge to spread science literacy among the general public that has motivated him to write the present book on cosmology.
