About the Books

The second edition of this book is an attempt to bring clarity to the subject of guidance and counselling for those who wish to take it up professionally as a career.  Keeping this in view, this book has been written with three clear objectives: to enable learners to understand the real meaning of guidance and counselling; to give the professionals all essential information; and to make the students, irrespective of their discipline, in developing insight into guidance and counselling. The edition is redesign in twenty-five chapters. This book is primarily intended to serve as a textbook for graduate, post-graduate students as well as for professionals working in the field of guidance and counselling. It is hoped that the humble effort made in the form of this book will assist in the accomplishment of the understanding of the various concepts, and methods applied in guidance and counselling.

About the Author

Dr. Shah Alam obtained M.A., M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Psychology from A.M.U., Aligarh. He also did Post-Graduate Diploma in Educational and Vocational Guidance from NCERT, New Delhi. Before joining AMU, Aligarh, he was working as Student Counsellor in R.I.E (N.C.E.R.T.), Ajmer. He has published more than 16 research papers and articles and attended more than 30 seminars/conferences/ workshops. He has completed five major and minor research projects. He is also a research awardee by UGC. He started his career as a research assistant and served various institutions, Punjab Police Academy, National Council of Educational Research and Training etc. Presently, Dr. Alam is working as Lecturer in Psychology and Coordinator of P.G. Diploma in Guidance & Counselling, Centre for Distance Education at Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh.
