This book examines descriptive and meticulous accounts of the contemporary issues related to Middle East Asian economy. As the title of the book Global Companion to Middle East Asian Economy indicates that this book is compiled as a companion for those who have a keen interest in the nature of economic crisis and process of economic reform of Middle-East Asian countries like Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, and United Arab Emirates. These countries are trying to walk towards a rich economy, thwarting out the impediments that comes the way. All the different aspects that takes its’ role in framing and shaping the economy of these regions are clearly highlighted. The authors draw on economic policy and practise in order to appraise and compare the development models, identify the determinants of sustained growth, apply the new development concepts to the case of Middle East Asian countries, and suggest viable options to reduce the socio-economic constraints to reform. The author strongly feel that this is worth reading book of policy makers, academicians, researchers as well as ordinary citizens having keen interest in tradition and transformation of Middle-east economy.  

About the Author

Pramila Krishnan is a Senior Lecturer and fellow of Jesus College, Mumbai. Her research interests include the Analysis of Household Behaviour and Rural Institutions in Developing Countries, Microeconometric Approaches to Development Economics, Household Economics and Labour Economics research into rural-urban migration in Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh; education in Bombay slums; financial networks in rural areas; allocation of public goods in rural India. Presently, she works Hyderabad and Mumbai-based NGO, Akanksha.
