LGBT Rights in Human Rights Perspectives

Description

ABOUT THE BOOK

LGBT is an umbrella term covering a very heterogeneous group of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people who often appear with joint political efforts in the local and international political arena for efficiency in order to get a better social representation and more political support. LGBT people can be seen as members of minority groups, i.e. social groups characterized by a relative powerlessness regarding their interest representing abilities. The history LGBT peoples and cultures around the world dates back to the first recorded instances of same-sex love and sexuality of ancient civilizations. The earliest documents concerning same-sex relationships come from Ancient Greece. Sexual rights articulations have entered mainstream human rights discourse since the early 1990s. It is hoped that the present edition of this book will be beneficial to all concerned of the society, in general and students, lawyers, advocates, academicians, human rights institutions, researchers and NGOs working in human rights field, in particular.
