Description

About the Book

Rural development implies both the economic betterment of people as well as greater social transformation. The increasing contact with the outside world made possible by improved communications has considerably reduced the isolation of the rural areas and rural development become core issue of the Government of India. The rural development project received impetus under British colonial rule, although its agenda was concerned about the maintenance of law and order and ensuring the supplies of cheap raw materials for British industries. Since independence, the Government has designed and implemented several socio-political and economic development programmes for rural development.

The present book “Rural India” is designed in two volumes. The very first volume deals with the rural development programmes and policies and its impact on socio-political development since independence in 15 chapters. The second volume reviews the role of rural of rural economic policies and programmes in changing rural scenario in 14 chapters. It is hoped that the present edition of this book will be beneficial to all concerned of the society, in general and students, lawyers, advocates, academicians, human rights institutions, researchers and NGOs working in rural areas, in particular.
