About the Author

Katherine Marsland, Assistant Professor of Psychology, University of Kentucky, is a social psychologist.  She has specialised herself in socio-emotional development; motivation, early care and education; child care quality; and development of the self-system in early childhood. Recently, she is working on longitudinal study of self-system development before school entry. Longitudinal study of state child care licensing requirement for centre-based infant and toddler care and Collaborative study of decision-making, emotional intelligence and motivation with Jeremy Gray.

Ruth Baer, Research Associate of Psychology, University of Kentucky, is a neuro-scientist. Using laboratory animals, he studied the effects of alcohol and other drugs on the electrical activity of the visual system. During the time that he has been at Lawrence, Hetzler’s research has produced 20 scientific journal articles and conference presentations with Lawrence student co-authors.  Recently, he has begun a new programme of research on mindfulness and mindfulness-based interventions.
