About the Book

The quality and quantity of performance performed by any individual in any task is mainly determined by the fact whether an individual is satisfied or dissatisfied by the particular task. Teachers’ job satisfaction has been shown to be predictor of teacher retention, a determinant of teacher commitment and in turn a contributor to school effectiveness. Teaching profession as such has an important, noble place in the society. People (teachers) who are involved in the teaching profession are rather different from the people who are involved in other profession. Wholehearted participation of the teachers in the educational process and organization is primary necessity for the success of educational system. Teachers would extend their maximum, ultimate potentialities to serve their profession, if they are satisfied with their jobs. Understanding the job satisfaction is undoubtedly a vital phenomenon for school teachers as it is for any organization. Hence, there is a great need for the study of teacher job satisfaction working in secondary schools and this book will help to understand their problems.

About the Authors

Dr. Noorjehan N. Ganihar is working in Karnatak University, Dharwad since 1986. Presently, She is a Professor and Chairperson, Post Graduate Department of Education, Karnatak University, Dharwad. She was former Dean, Faculty of Education and Former Syndicate Member, Karnatak University, Dharwad. She obtained her M.A., M.Ed., and Ph.D. degrees from Karnatak University, Dharwad. She has a P.G Diploma in Education from S.N.D.T. Women’s University, Bombay. She has a P.G. Diploma in Human Resource Management, and a P.G. Diploma in Higher Education from IGNOU. She was a “Second Rank” holder in her B.A course, “First Rank” holder in B.Ed., M.Ed. and P.G Diploma in Education Management. She is a “Gold Medalist” in the M.Ed course. She is a recipient of two “State Awards” in (1982) and (1983). She has received Life Time Achievement Award in Education from Health and Education Development Association, New Delhi in 2007. She has published a number of research articles in journals of national standard and repute. She is a member of several academic boards/ bodies besides holding honorary positions in NGOs.

Dr. Jayashree Vastrad has obtained her M.A., M.Ed., and Ph.D from Karnatak University, Dharwad. She is presently working as lecturer, in KLE’s College of Education, Hubli. She has attended number of conferences, symposia and workshops.  Her area of specialization is educational management.
