Description

About the Book

Technology represents values and disvalues simultaneously, defying any easy judgement of technology as good or evil. Given this fact of ethical ambiguity, the question how to evaluate technology poses a methodological challenge to ethics. This book proposes to use proportionate reasoning equipped with moral imagination as an epistemological tool to address ethical ambiguity of technology. Principal ethical methodologies have been dominated by discursive approaches. By its recourse to moral imagination, this book makes a rewarding attempt at a sustained use of a non-discursive approach in ethics. “Technology and Ethical Ambiguity provides us with much more than the assessment of a contemporary ethical challenge. It offers us an alternative way to envision the entire moral enterprise.”
