The main objective of writing this book entitled “Downstream Processing Techniques in Biotechnology” is to provide advance knowledge of the various methods used in purification of biological compounds. The book comprises of five chapters. First chapter presents an overview of bioprocess and process design, an overview of bio-separation and downstream processing in biotechnology. Second chapter discusses primary separation and explains cell disruption methods and separation techniques for removal of insolubles. Third chapter covers product isolation and explains extraction, adsorption, distillation, membrane based separation and the precipitation methods while fourth chapter discusses product purification explaining electrophoresis, iso-electric focusing and chromatography techniques. The final chapter covers product polishing and explains crystallization, drying and recovery of Penicillin G, Glutamic acid, antibodies, citric acid and extracellular and intracellular enzymes. Each chapter is presented in a concise and lucid manner including kinetics and step wise procedure.

About the Author

Anuj Kumar Rana is working as an Assistant Professor in Department of Biotechnology, IMS Engineering College, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, which is very renowned engineering college of north India. He has an experience of five years in teaching. He is enrolled as PhD Scholar (Biotechnology) in Uttarakhand Technical University, Dehradun, Uttarakhand (India).He has written several research papers at national and international level and has guided more than ten projects at graduation level.
