About the Book
The main objective of this edition is to describe the design, mechanisms, and effects of different electoral systems on national, regional and supranational levels. The new edition identifies, describes and classifies 12 distinct electoral systems and discusses its relationship with the larger institutional framework as well as its impact on administrative issues and it highlights in particular issues relating to the process of electoral system change. In addition, direct democracy provisions and practices are also covered within this study. The central theme of this edition is redesigned into eight under following head: criteria for design, process of change, systems and their consequences, electoral systems, institutional framework and governance, cost and administrative implications of electoral systems, advice for electoral systems designers, and electoral system in India. About the Author
Dipali Saha, a dynamic scholar of sociology, was born in Maldah district and educated in North Bengal University (West Bengal). She was associated with several projects of ICSSR Kolkata and also worked as a lecturer in Ashutosh College in Kolkata. Presently she is devoted in social work and associated with NGO in Siliguri of North Bengal. She has written a number of important articles in News paper and journals of national and international repute. Her first published book is Civil Society and Modern Politics.
Anjana Banerjee, born in Calcutta and educated in Patna, is a young scholar and teacher of Political Science. She has done M.A. (Political Science) and Ph.D. from Patna University. As a keen researcher, she has written a number of research papers and articles which have been published in reputed journals and newspapers. Presently she is working as a lecturer in RSP College Jharia, Dhanbad.
