About the Book
In this edition, an attempt has been made to emphasise Gandhian concept of environmentalism to find out solution of contemporary environmental crisis. The first chapter introduces the life and work of Mahatma Gandhi and his influence on contemporary environmental movement of India. The basic factors for ecological crisis and Gandhian economic order is discussed in the second chapter. Third chapter examines Gandhi’s ecological vision of life. Fourth chapter deals with the inner logic of Gandhian ecology and his concept of environmental conservation, sustainability and survival is devoted in fifth chapter. Sixth chapter examines Gandhian ecology and developmental challenges in India. Modern humanism crisis in environmental perspective is discussed in seventh chapter and the emphasis is given to Gandhi as an ecological tourist in last chapter. It is no doubt that Gandhi was an early environmentalist, although this is usually answered in the affirmative by his admirers, but rarely with supporting evidence.
About the Author
R.C. Sharma, a noted Gandhian scholar has more than 20 years teaching experience in different colleges under Bhagalpur University, Bhagalpur. Dr. Sharma had participated in several national and international seminars on environmental issues. He is actively engaged with several social organisations working on environmental movement. He has also published research papers in reputed national Journals.
