About the Book

The second edition of “Nutritional Anthropology” provides solid information on the development and application of anthropological methodologies for studying key aspects of the nutrition of individuals, families, and communities. This edition is intended for both anthropologists and nutritionists who are pursuing community nutrition studies in either industrialised or developing countries. Most of the chapters are devoted to detailed examination of specific content areas or methodological problems that are likely to be important in field-based nutrition studies. At the same time, the discussions of research tools and issues covered in this title will also be useful to theory-oriented researchers working at some remove from applied projects, since many areas of theoretical concern are closely intertwined with applied and practical aspects.

About the Author

B. Jensen is an associate research fellow of anthropology of the University of California, Berkeley. He studies change in a variety of contexts, with special emphasis on nutritional anthropology, gender/sexuality and health in the Americas, especially Mexico and among Latinos in the United States. In Mexico City, he has done research on changing male identities and practices with respect to fathering, sexuality, housework, alcohol, violence, and the cultural history of machismo. He also has done research on nutritional and reproductive health through ethnographic fieldwork among indigenous midwives, doctors, and healers.
