About the Book

The advent of the World Trade Organization, a new international economic order of world trade, has shifted the locus of economic decision-making from central political and economic constructs to the ‘new integrated’ world. In India, the WTO agreement has been dogged by controversy from the very beginning. This volume attempts to capture this on-going debate and introduces the objectives and functions of WTO; explains the nature of its agreement on agriculture (AoA); presents a brief review of the recent growth of Indian agriculture; examines the results of some of the macro-economic studies on Indian agriculture; studies the Indian agricultural export with special reference to WTO agreements; brings out some of the critical views and recommendation of the dialogue on the nature of WTO related challenges; elaborates on the commitments that India had taken during the Uruguay Round negotiations and presents a three pronged strategy to deal with the implications of WTO on Indian agriculture from the perspective of intellectual property rights.
